Pete Postlethwaites Last Memorable Movies
Peter William “Pete” Postlethwaite is one of Hollywoods underrated brilliant actors. He was a British actor for stage, television, and film. His first breakthrough came with the movie Distant Voices Still Lives in 1988. After that came a string of commercially successfully movies like Alien 3, In the Name of the Father, Amistad, The Constant Gardener, The Age of Stupid, Romeo and Juliet, and Aeon Flux. This actor, who was born in Washington in 1946, taught drama before he turned serious in his acting career. Renowned director praised him for his excellent craft even calling him the best actor in the world after working together in the movie, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. To this, Postlethwaite replied humbly, he probably meant that I think I am the best actor in the world. During his career, Postlethwaite received an Academy Award nomination for his role in the movie In the Name of the Father in 1993. He was also made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2004. He died in January 2, 2011 after suffering from cancer. Here is a look at his last three movies that were shown in 2010.
Clash of the Titans
Clash of the Titans is a fantasy movie and remake of the film with the same title that was released in 1981. The story plot is similar to the original movie, which follows the Greek myth of Perseus. Louis Leterrier directed the movie and Aviator star Sam Worthington played the lead role. Pete Postlethwaite was part of the movie as Spyros, the adoptive father of Perseus. He and his wife raised Perseus on the Cyclades Islands after finding him one day while they were fishing. As usual, Postlethwaite was able to turn a small role into a memorable performance in this movie that was shown in April 2, 2010.
Inception
One of the best science fiction thriller films of all time, Inception was released just last year. This film, which was written, directed, and produced by Christopher Nolan, included big names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Dileep Rao, Tom Berenger, and of course, Postlethwaite. The movie is about the life of an espionage thief who stole ideas from his targets sleep and dreams. The plot became more interesting when the impossible task of implanting an idea on a persons mind called inception was given to the lead character played by DiCaprio. Postlethwaite gave a compelling performance as Maurice Fischer, the father of DiCaprios latest target. For this, he was part of the nomination from the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Award for Best Ensemble.
The Town
Co-written and directed by Hollywood star Ben Affleck, the town is an adaptation of Chuck Hogans novel called Prince of Thieves. When the movie was released in September 2010, it received positive reviews not only because of its amazing story plot but also for the commendable performances of the actors in the cast including Postlethwaite, who was nominated by the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Cast.
