Soar High with the Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago is blessed not only with charming places, booming economy, prestigious schools, and hospitable people. It is also home to some of the best sports teams the world has ever known. And one of these is no other than the fierce Chicago Blackhawks, a professional ice hockey team that is member of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League.
Having won a total of four Stanley Cup Championships and 14 division titles ever since it was founded in the year 1926, the Blackhawks are always on the top of the list of the best teams in NHL. The team is also one of the six original NHL teams along with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, and the Boston Bruins.
Since 1994, they have been playing their home games at the United Center after moving from the Chicago Stadium that used to be their home for the last 65 years. The transfer can be considered as a lucky charm. They won the Stanley Cup in the Stanley Cup Finals of 2010, defeating the equally strong team of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Early History
The Blackhawks entered the league in 1926. It was the leagues first wave of expansion in the country. The team was among the three American teams that were included in the league. The others were the Detroit Cougars, now known as the Detroit Red Wings, and the New York Rangers. Most of the original members of the Blackhawks were from the Portland Rosebuds of the Western Hockey League, which was originally known as the Regina Capitals of the Western Canada Hockey League. This has ceased to exist one season prior to the opening of the NHL.
Team Owner
The first owner of the Blackhawks was coffee mogul named Frederic McLaughlin. He was able to outbid big businessman James E. Norris. Since McLaughlin was a commander during the World War I, this prompted him to give the team the nickname Blackhawk Division, after Chief Black Hawk, a historical figure in Illinois.
McLaughlin was very hands on in running the team. This is despite the fact that he did not have any background in hockey. He also served as the teams general manager, who promoted American hockey players. It was also under this owner that the team became the first NHL team to have an all-American lineup of players.
Legendary Blackhawks
Some of the greatest players who played for this team include Jeremy Roenick, Doug Wilson, Steve Larmer, Chris Chelios, Pierre Pilote, Denis Savard, Tony Esposito, Glenn Hall, and Stan Mikita. Now, if there should be anyone in the number one spot, many would probably agree that it would have to be Bobby Hull, dubbed as the Golden Jet for his remarkable skating speed and unstoppable force that helped the team won countless of games.
The Chicago Blackhawks would remain as one of the greatest sports team in the United States. Lets all celebrate their wondrous career by downloading a free NHL Chicago Blackhawks wallpaper on our computers.
