Gay Holidays
Gay Pride or LGBT pride and is simplified as pride is a stance against discrimination and violence against the third sex individuals (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender). The movement promotes the self-affirmation, increases the visibility of the third sex members as a social group, builds a community, and celebrates sexual diversity, gender variance, and gender equality. The movement is against shame and social stigma as it is the main post of the LGBT rights movement. It has supported and lends its name to LGBT groups and organizations all over the world including the Pride Library.
There are different types of events and celebrations by Pride which they held during the Gay Pride Month. Some of these events are commemorations for great turning points in the fight of LGBT history like the anniversary of Russias decriminalization of homosexuality in 1993 which is celebrated every month of May. Most of Gay Pride Months include activities like parades, marches, rallies, commemorations, community days, festivals, and dance parties. The celebrations and the Gay Pride month also uses symbols like the rainbow or the Pride Flag. They also use the Greek letter lambada (?) in lower case, and the pink and the black triangle.
Pride month in the US is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots from 1969. When this tradition started, most Pride months are also celebrated in June in order to create a greater impact for the LGBT community. Both Bill Clinton and Barrack Obama has declared June to be a Pride month in the years 2000, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
