Paying Homage to the U.S. Constitution

On September 17, 2011, Constitution Day will once against be celebrated. At the same date, centuries ago, specifically on the year 1787, 39 out of 55 delegates of the Constitutional Convention signed the document which was ratified as the fundamental law of the United States. Despite the importance of constitution to the citizens of our country, many people especially the younger generation have lost touch with its significance. That is why in 2004, Senator Robert Byrd sponsored a bill that mandated federal agencies and schools to hold educational programs about the Constitution every Constitution Day.

To celebrate and pay tribute to this important day in our history, here are some of the things that we can do.

• Get a copy of the Constitution and read it. It’s not enough that you browse through it, you have to understand the basic principles of the law. There’s no need to memorize it word per word, just understand the basic meaning of the laws.

• Buy a copy of the Heritage Guide to the Constitution. This is a definitive analysis of the Constitution that serves as a clause by clause guide to make it easier for a layman to comprehend.

• Attend a lecture on the Constitution. Log on to www.heritage.org to attend the webcast lecture of Robert George of the Princeton University.

• Check out online resources such as the National Constitution Center and Bill of Rights Institute.

• Download a free Constitution Day wallpaper on your computer to pay tribute to the fundamental laws of your country.
