Putting on Christmas Symbols
Christmas is one of the busiest holidays of the year with all the wonderful Christmas decors that have different colors and sizes. Not only are these decors festive and wonderful, they each have significant meaning. The date itself when Christmas is celebrated has its own purpose and it was to rival with the celebration of the Pagan sun gods birthday.
The Advent Wreath which holds four candles signify our anticipation for Christmas as each of the candles are lit every Sunday before the main event. The angel figurine which is used as a Christmas tree topper or part of the manger scene represents the angels that brought the good news of Jesus birth to the shepherds. The lit candles represent the light that Jesus brought to the world while Christmas lights are its modern counterpart. Christmas stockings represent the legend of St. Nicholas and his good deeds.
The manger scene is what people call the crèche and is consist of figurines depicting Mother Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, the shepherds, and the three wise men with several animals and angels. It is a reminder of the humble way that the only son of God came into this world for salvation.
Evergreens symbolize new life. The advent wreath, Christmas trees, mistletoe, and other decors have the color green. Poinsettias are flowers with a vibrant red color and are used to represent the Christmas star. The star represents the same star that guided the wise men to the manger where Jesus was born. Other wonderful decorations include hollies, icicles, mistletoe, and Yule log.
