Chernobyl Day: Say No to Nuclear Energy
Who could ever forget the nuclear disaster that occurred on the 26th of April 1986 in Chernobyl Ukraine? This disaster was considered as the worst ever nuclear accident in the entire history of the world. The Chernobyl disaster resulted to the contamination of the land and nearby areas and caused a great catastrophe on the economy of the Soviet.
Even if it had happened 24 years ago, several residents of the area are still dealing with the consequences that were brought about by this disaster. A huge percentage of the residents of the contaminated area, particularly the children are still ill up to the present time. Several generations still have to bear the health disaster the Chernobyl accident caused. Children have now an increased risk of acquiring certain types of cancer. Even workers of nuclear energy power plants in several countries are also victims and are getting their radioactive doses at work.
The commemoration of the Chernobyl disaster calls out several organizations to take action to make sure that an incident as disastrous as this is never to happen ever again. At the present time, the use of nuclear energy is still a reality and could pose another disaster once something goes wrong. Several organizations have been spearheading action plans to develop several alternative energy sources that are efficient and safe at the same time.
