Black History Month, an Important Historical Milestone
Otherwise known as the African-American History Month, the Black History Month is a yearly celebration in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada to commemorate the events that have transpired and honor people who became heroes during the African diaspora. In the US and Canada, it takes place every February while in the UK, it is celebrated in October.
The person who started the celebration is Carter G. Woodson (1875-1950). His parents were former slaves. He promoted the idea of Negro History Week, which eventually became a month-long celebration known as Black of History Month.
Ever since the whole idea started, the Black History Month has been celebrated with a certain theme. The very first theme was The Negro in History. As years passed by the themes have become more specific. Take a look at the most current themes for this month.
