Get Set for the Australian Open
Are you ready for the Australian Open in 2012? This year’s tournament is set to offer the biggest prize money ever in Grand Slam tennis. The men’s and women’s champion will each be awarded a whopping $2.3 million. A total of $26 million will be given away.
It is the 100th time that the men’s singles championship will be held at the Australian Open. Fifty-nine different players have clinched the men’s title, which has been contested since 1905. Since this is a special year, a commemorative coin has been made. The winner of the 100th men’s singles title will also be given a special medal.
There are many new features in the 2012 Australian Open. First, Hawk-Eye technology will be introduced to the Margaret Court Arena. Next, the Grand Slam Open was redeveloped in order to improve access and make room for additional space. The successful Australian Open Kids Day will also be held again. The lead-in program for the 2012 Australian Open will be Battle of the Codes, where Melbourne sporting teams battle each other.
The Australian Open’s sponsor, ANZ, has extended its contract by 12 months. There is also a new sponsor, Dove. It is planning to activate the Grand Slam Oval. Doubles champion Ken Fletcher will also be honored with a spot in the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame. The organizers of the 2012 Australian Open have promised renovated player facilities.
