Globally, people celebrate holidays for a lot of reasons: to commemorate a national hero, to remember a historic event, and to make religious observances are but a few examples. No matter what race, color, or creed it is very clear that people enjoy celebrating holidays especially if we are celebrating one that we all, at some point in our lives, were.
The day of celebration for Children's day worldwide differs from country to country. Some celebrate children's day on June 1 that corresponds to The World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925, while others on June 20 which was first proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954. But despite that, countries all over the world recognize how significant it is to have one day dedicated to honoring the children. In some countries, parents give presents to their children and schools organize field trips and other activities that showcase talents and skills. Aside from celebrating youth, Children's day is commemorative of children's rights: The right to education and basic necessities, the right against abuse, and plainly the right to a happy childhood. It has also become an opportunity for child-welfare groups to raise awareness and conduct fundraising activities.
If we wish to create a lasting peace we must begin with the children, were the words of the great leader Mahatma Gandhi. How a nation treats its younger population is one of the important factors that attest to how a nation would be like in the future. For the children of today will be the leader, builder, and hero of tomorrow.
